We cannot view the universe as the open area for the acquisition of more selfish material resources. We cannot continue to view those who travel to this place as scientific experiments for our own inquiry and selfish research and observation.
The universe has so much more to offer the earth born than just the answers to a few scientific questions. If we would open our minds to the possibility of the encounter of lifeforms beyond our own understanding and boundaries we could reach the stars with the wisdom to travel the far universe. The reason we cannot talk about these kinds of concerns is because we know that we are not ready to accept that there is intelligent life elsewhere.
Maybe we have overlooked intelligent lifeforms on this planet. Maybe all life might have an intellect and be bound by the principles that reflect that all life is sacred.
If then we are a part of a larger family of life then it makes sense that those forms would isolate themselves from us until we proved that we respected all life.
If we do not respect our own lives and home how would we respect a different lifeform from another distant planet or universe?
