The basic understanding that we are alone in the universe is flawed. We need to accept that we are a very diverse universe of living beings that populates a vast array of lifeforms from across the Galaxy and through out the known and unknown universe.
We do not understand the nature of diversity well enough to respect the possibility of other life in the universe.Because of this basic flaw in our thinking we cannot claim to be Sentient.
